a little bug in auto-update ? 3 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

I have installed FTT on one domain, done each update and added added some files around like index.php, some new directorys for different use. After I had finished the work I was thinking about to see how the "shared database" will work if FTT is installed on more than one domain.

After a successfull installation on the second domain I was going to the "maintaince / Auto Update" section but will get several errors like this :

/directory/1stdomain/robots.txt is not writable!
/directory/1stdomain/stats/ is not writable!
...
Please, set appropriate permissions!
Update will not be installed

This is surely a result about that I don't use 777 permissions for all my own files and directories on the first domain. It would be a very stupid if I will give everyone on the internte the whole rights to write my files.

I can change the permissions to all files - update the second installation - and but the permissions back to 644 but I think it could be better if there is another solution of this.

bye
Alex

Hi,
Looks like you have tried to install ftt to your site index directory. That's not good practice. Better install in into ftt directory and set appropriate permissions only for that directory. Actually, after installation you can set it 644. Only when you update your script you should set it back to 777, update and can set back to 644.

Hi Sersh,

you are right that the install for the first domain is in the index directory. But I will get the problem within update the second (all in ftt directory) installation but with file permission problem from first one.

It seems to me that the auto-update will control every installation on the server as well for all installation which are up-to-date. Maybe it is better to update each one instead of single installation.

Right now I will change the permissions before updating - that not so a big problem

thx alex

Auto update script needs to control every installation of FTT on server becouse all they use one shared db and in some updates may be changes in shared db. That's why auto-update script updates all copies at once and check permissions on all domains before that.
